Every year, Americans eat an average of 46 pieces of pizza, or 23 pounds, according to studies.
At the same time, 18% thought their own pizza consumption will be slightly higher this year compared to last.
So, not only does the average American consume more than three large pizzas per year,
but it also looks like demand for this favorite cuisine will stay strong, if not rise somewhat, next year.
We still can't get enough pizza as a group. (The cities where pizza costs the most are listed here.)
It is not surprising that high-quality pizzerias can now be found all over the United States, considering the Americans' insatiable pizza cravings.
Some follow the rules set down by the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana, an Italian group that protects the traditional pizza recipe.
